Halloween

Sorry I didn't see ML as the Flashdancer in Bmo.

The folks on the block came over for Halloween treats including fig cake, ghost meringues, salmon canapes, chocolate and caramel fondue and proseco and cider. The meringues, fig cake, salmon canopes, spinach dip in a pumpernikel boule, and proseco were the big hits. I only had 3 bottles so next time I should have 6. The fondue was real good but not a big seller. No one much ate the carrots or the tortilla chips and cheese dip or the brie and crackers or the coffee. The dogs stayed in the bathroom very nicely as some folks came through the back door. We had 18 folks all together. Moody had a real good time.

Carnivores Galore

Today I went to the Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro. http://carolinatigerrescue.org/default.asp

They have lots of carnivores especially tigers, but I saw lots of animals I never saw before including: caracals, cervals, ocelots, binturongs, and kinkajous. They had a very nice bobcat named "Collins". Bobcats, which are related to the lynx, received their popular name because of their short tails, which are black-tipped and white on the underside. They have long, stout legs with very large padded feet and black bars on their forelegs. Bobcats are much smaller than mountain lions (aka cougars).

Among the many Bengal tigers we saw a white tiger named "Jellybean". The tour guide, Patrick, explained to us that the cats fall into two groups; big and small. All the big cats (eg, tigers, lions, jaguars) have round pupils in their eyes; and all the small cats (eg, mountain lions, caracals, ocelots, bobcats) have the oval pupil like a house cat. The pictures are from Matthew as I did not take a camera.
Next time you come to visit - let me know if you want to see the tiger rescue place so I can make a reservation.

I've added links to several web pages that may be of interest included 3 genealogy pages: Burt, Hart, and Wilson; and a cancer blog that follows Moody's treatments for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Depending on your browser, the links will appear on the left of this blog.
