Elizabeth Hart Guiher (1928-2011)

Liddy, age 82, passed away at Johns Hopkins University Hospital on Wednesday evening, August 17, 2011, 3 days before her 57th wedding anniversary.  She had been in the hospital since the previous Friday with pneumonia and end-stage renal failure due to her Wegener's Disease.  She was quite active until then having just moved into Charlestown in Catonsville, MD from New York City.  Deborah promised her it was a temporary stay and I guess she was right afterall.  She was there less than a month.  I was with her about two weeks ago and she seemed fine.  She was looking forward to a visit to Clarksburg, WV to see some old high school budies in a week.  I will miss her.

There will be a memorial for my Aunt Liddy in NYC on Saturday, October 1 at 12:00 noon at Immanuel Lutheran Church located at 88th Street and Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side.

Here are two links to photos, one to more pics of Liddy and one to the folks who came to the memorial events in Clarksburg.

Guiher – Elizabeth “Liddy” Hart. Died August 17, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore with her two daughters in attendance. Beloved wife of James M. Guiher, and mother of Catharine Brownfield Guiher and Mrs. Deborah Guiher (Jeff) Chamblee. Born to Catharine Louise Davis and Edward Hart in Charleston, WV, October 9,1928, she was raised in Clarksburg, WV and graduated from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. She was an amateur singer, harpsichordist, and recorder player, passionately interested in Early Music; and during her long residence in New York, she was on the board of Art of the Early Keyboard (ARTEK) and Music Before 1800. She was for many years a volunteer at the Volunteer Referral Center and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. A descendant of John Hart, the signer of the Declaration of Independence, she was predeceased by her brother John “Bud” Hart, sisters Isabelle Wilson and Catharine “Canky” Brown, and cousins Virginia “Ginga” Hood Rogers and David Lincoln Hood. Following her brother, who lived in Rome for 40 years, she visited Italy many times with her family and friends in Rome and at a large farmhouse in Umbria. She also vacationed in Nantucket for 47 years at a small rustic “home away from home.” She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Rebecca Guiher Chamblee and Benjamin Guiher Chamblee. Her sunny disposition and generous spirit enriched us all and will be greatly missed. Burial will be at the Bridgeport Cemetery in Bridgeport, WV. A memorial service will be held in New York at a later date. Contributions may be made in Liddy's memory to The Art of the Early Keyboard, Inc., 170 West 73rd Street, #3C, NYC 10023.
